September 2025 Employee Spotlight Jesus Mendoza-Montoya

Jesus’ path to becoming a full-time member of the Landscape Services team is a compelling example of how early engagement, personal drive, and professional integrity can shape a meaningful career. His first interaction with Facilities Management came as a high school junior during a job shadowing day. Even then, Jesus stood out—not just for his attentiveness, but for the pride he took in the experience. When he returned for a school tour weeks later, wearing the t-shirt from his shadowing visit, it was clear that his interest in the work and the team was genuine and lasting.

From that point forward, Jesus demonstrated a consistent commitment to learning and contributing. He joined the Facilities team with In-House Construction through the Career Connections program in 2024, where he quickly earned the respect of his supervisors through his reliability, professionalism, and ability to build strong working relationships. In the spring of 2025, he continued his development through a Co-Op placement in Landscape Services, where his presence became a familiar and welcome part of the daily operations. Jesus’ work speaks for itself. He is frequently seen maintaining campus grounds with care and precision—often before others have even arrived for the day. His punctuality, dependability, and visible dedication reflect a work ethic that is both rare and admirable, particularly in someone at the beginning of their career.

“Although I don’t supervise Jesus, I see him often—which speaks to his strong work ethic, reliable attendance, and punctuality (I frequently see him mowing grass at FM as I arrive). He became a full-time employee this summer, and I’m proud of his journey. His participation in several WFD programs before joining full-time highlights the meaningful impact these programs can have on young individuals eager to learn and grow in a new career.”

Hayley White, Manager, Facilities Human Resources

Jesus approaches every task with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. He is respectful, cordial, and consistently professional in his interactions. His eagerness to grow within his role and his openness to feedback make him a valuable asset to the team and a strong candidate for future leadership. His transition to full-time employment in the summer of 2025 is a milestone that reflects his own determination and the strength of the support systems that helped guide him along the way.

“My overall experience of working with Jesus been very positive. He is a cheerful person and is always respectful and cordial with everyone. He takes pride in this work and is very dependable and punctual.”

Kevin Courtwright, Supervisor, Landscape Services

His character extends beyond the workplace. Early in his tenure, Jesus introduced his younger brother, Brayan, and actively sought opportunities for him within Facilities Management. Brayan is now preparing to begin his own Co-Op experience, a reflection of Jesus’s strong family values and his belief in helping others succeed. Seeing the two brothers grow within the organization is a powerful reminder of the impact that mentorship and encouragement can have on building a strong, community-oriented workforce.

“Jesus is a relatively new employee who began as a Career Connections student. He’s eager to learn more about his role and is enthusiastic about growing his career with Landscape Services. It’s rewarding to see someone start their journey in landscaping, and I’m glad Landscape Services can be part of the beginning of his professional career.”

Wes Miller, Manager, Landscape Services

Jesus’ presence is consistently marked by a positive attitude and a respectful demeanor. His commitment to his role and his visible contributions—such as maintaining campus grounds with diligence—serve as a daily reminder of the value he brings to the team. Facilities Management is proud to recognize Jesus not only for his work ethic and professionalism but also for embodying the spirit of growth, opportunity, and community that defines Auburn University.
