Mail Services

Campus Mail Services provides delivery and pick-up services to over 220 mail stop locations across Auburn’s campus each day.

Mail Delivery
  • Mail Services will only deliver mail from the United States Postal Service (USPS).
  • FedEx, UPS, and any other delivery services will deliver straight to your department.
Outgoing Mail
  • All outgoing mail will be picked up when the mail carrier drops off mail. Please have your Plus 4 on any piece of mail you are sending out.
  • If your FedEx or UPS packages have pre-printed labels from your account or vendor account, then Mail Services cannot pick up that package.
  • Mail Services will pick up packages that you would like sent via UPS using Mail Services’ account. Your department will then be billed for the UPS service and will receive tracking details. You must complete the UPS form (found here), print it out, and place it on the package for pick up with your outgoing mail.
  • Mail Services will pick up any interoffice mail and deliver to the department. (Please ensure the correct address and name is on the envelope).
Personal Mail
  • Mail Services will pick up personal mail. Mail Services is not responsible for any personal mail that gets lost in the mail.
  • Personal mail cannot be billed to a departmental account, no exceptions.
  • Mail marked with a Plus 4 that appears to be personal will be returned back to that department.
Large Shipments
  • Please notify Mail Services of any large shipments, from your department, a week before pick up or prior to delivering to Mail Services (this will guarantee there is enough postage to cover your mailing).

What is a Plus 4?

  • Plus 4 is a 4 digit number that is at the end of Zip code (Example 36849+ 5514)
  • This is used for Direct charge
  • Every plus 4 starts with the number 5, Your plus 4 should be on any letter or package that you send from your department
  • Starting Jan 6,2025 If your plus 4 is not on your Mail, Mail Services will not pick up your Mail

What is Bulk Mail?

  • Bulk Mail broadly refers to mail that is mailed and processed in bulk at reduced rates. ​
  • Bulk Mail may consist of letters, newsletters, pamphlets and other similar products.​
  • Requires 200 or more pieces of the same thing.​
  • Bulk Mail MUST be in envelopes with the permit number printed on each envelope.​
  • Each department is responsible for ordering the pre-printed envelopes.​
  • Starting on Aug 1 – before you send out any Bulk Mail you need to fill out the Permit 9 form.

What is Permit 9?

Permit 9 is the account associated with Auburn University Mail Services that allows vendors and departments to use funds to pay for postage. ​

Craft master, Davis Direct, and other vendors use the Permit 9 account for all Bulk Mail charges related to Auburn University.​

What is the difference between Permit #9 and Permit #530?

Permit #9 should be used when mailing items locally, i.e. Auburn area. Please ensure your local vendors are using Permit #9.
Permit #530 should be used when mailing items in Montgomery.

Can I receive my personal mail at my Auburn departmental address?

No. The University requires all faculty and staff to receive their personal mail at home or permanent address. Occasional correspondence from friends and colleagues is not considered personal mail.

Can I send my personal mail through Campus Mail Service and bill it to my department?

As a courtesy to University faculty and staff, Campus Mail Service will pick-up any stamped personal mail from departments along with other mail that is picked up at a regular pick-up location. Personal Mail must be sealed and have the correct postage affixed. All stamped mail should be kept separate from all other mail. Personal mail cannot be billed to a departmental account; no exceptions.

When is the deadline to drop off mail to Campus Mail Services?

All outgoing USPS Mail should be at Campus Mail Service no later than 2:45 PM in order for Mail Processing Clerks to have ample time to process your mail.
